At the GroundUp Project, we believe that innovation starts with people who dare to collaborate, share, and grow together. Our work reflects this collective spirit: strengthening resilience, empowering talent, and fostering meaningful connections across borders. It is a testament to our voice, our purpose, and our shared vision for a safer and more innovative Europe.
CBRNE technologies, those addressing Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive threats, are at the heart of Europe’s security and resilience. They safeguard lives, protect the environment, and ensure the stability of critical infrastructure.
However, the Southern Central and Eastern European (CEE) region still faces challenges in turning its strong research potential into tangible innovation. Efforts are often fragmented, collaboration is limited, and pathways from laboratory to market are slow to develop. To improve the EU’s overall resilience, it is vital that the Southern CEE region strengthens its innovation capacity and fully integrates into Europe’s broader research and industrial ecosystem.
This is where GroundUp steps in. Our project’s mission is to build a vibrant and sustainable CBRNE innovation ecosystem in the Southern CEE region, one that connects students, researchers, businesses, end-users, and public institutions. By doing so, GroundUp is helping bridge regional gaps, promote collaboration, and unlock the innovation potential that already exists within the region.
Coordinated by Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, with the support of four other partners: University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest, Design Terminal, Privanova, and Scorpion Networks Ltd., the project drives engagement through targeted activities such as hackathons, capacity-building workshops, mentoring programmes, and internships. These initiatives foster collaboration between academia and industry while inspiring a new generation of innovators to develop market-ready solutions that enhance safety and resilience.
Our objectives reflect both ambition and purpose:
- Build a resilient business community and strengthen cooperation with R&I organisations.
- Promote academic and entrepreneurial growth through mentoring and practical training.
- Foster academia–business interconnections to accelerate innovation uptake.
- Showcase best practices and expand project results through global outreach and dissemination.
For us, the GroundUp brand is not just a visual identity; it is a statement of unity and progress. It symbolises how we want to be perceived: credible, forward-looking, and deeply committed to collaboration. Our voice is rooted in openness, inclusiveness, and shared knowledge, ensuring that every communication, partnership, and activity reflects these values.
Through GroundUp, we are cultivating an ecosystem that will outlast the project itself, one that continues to grow, connect, and contribute to Europe’s security landscape for years to come. Our brand tells the story of resilience. Our voice carries the message of cooperation. Together, they form the foundation of the GroundUp story, a story built on innovation, trust, and shared purpose.
